Interesting online Books on Paper

From A History of Paper. Its Genesis and Its Revelations.

Because I was was doing some small drawings that I felt needed a specific paper that referenced religious issues I began looking for companies that supplied paper for printing bibles. Eventually finding Offenbach Bible Paper, but of course when you are researching paper you begin to follow all sorts of links, often finding things that are totally unexpected and so I thought I'd save my readers the trouble of looking for old books on paper and have collected the links I found together. I am of course presuming that to have an interest in drawing develops into an interest in paper. The history of paper and its manufacturing processes is I believe part and parcel of the meaning that is expressed by any drawing that uses paper as a support and I have posted on these issues before. These books remind us how manufacturing processes change, but they also remind us how important it is to understand the physical and chemical properties of materials. This understanding leads to ideas about what materials can do, and as artists it is important that we do not simply leave this sort of understanding to scientists.
