Gego at the Henry Moore Institute

For all of you interested in drawing as a 3D experience the new show at the Henry Moore Institute is essential viewing.

Gego is also a very useful artist to look at if you are thinking about the grid and its possibilities when operating as a 3D system.

I noticed that there will be a major show of Calder on at Tate Modern this year as well, so there will be a lot of debate around concerning the edges and gaps between drawing and sculpture.

I mentioned Sara Barker's work in my last post, it would be interesting to trace the history of 3D spatial drawing and where and when it dips down into sculptural thinking and out again into thinking about the possibilities inherent in line drawing and most importantly, when does it operate on that fine line between both drawing and sculpture. The edges between disciplines are often where invention is at its highest and the types of concepts that can be carried are perhaps more subtle. Issues surrounding mass and weight, interjected into debates surrounding linear energy and space.
